The Workshops Research-on-FIRE are part of the FIREtalk project of the Baden-Württemberg Stiftung and organised by members of FIRE - the Network for Female International REsearch.
FIRE is an international network of female researchers on all career levels. We are interdisciplinary and our members come from a variety of backgrounds: nano-science, life science, health, engineering, social work, computer science, tourism, AI applied to various areas, sustainability – just to mention a few.
Workshops are open to participants of the Research-on-FIRE conference.
All workshops are a half-day; either 9h-12.30h or 13.30h-16.30h

Topic: Legal framework for international research collaboration
The workshop is intended for researchers planning to engage in international research collaborations. It will address the legal frameworks surrounding such projects, with a particular focus on the legal considerations relevant to conducting international research and the contractual arrangements necessary within a consortium to ensure smooth and legally compliant project implementation.

Topic: Why is funding and appreciation for research ethics committees a global concern?
Research ethics committees (RECs) face chronic underfunding and insufficient appreciation globally, undermining their ability to uphold ethical standards in research. This concern spans high-income and low-resource settings alike, with critical implications for research integrity and participant protection. This workshop will focus on why this is occurring in both develop and underdeveloped countries int he context of research.

Topic: Accessible Augmented Reality (AR) Escape Room for Gender Equality Learning
This workshop explores the intersection of technology, accessibility, and social learning through an accessible Augmented Reality (AR) escape room game designed to promote gender equality learning. Participants will be engaged in an interactive experience that showcases the potential of accessible AR as a tool for inclusive learning. The accessible AR escape room tool will be demonstrated in the workshop. Participants will have the opportunity to explore the game by playing and providing feedback on its usability, accessibility, and effectiveness in promoting gender equality themes. This collaborative session will invite participants to share ideas for future improvements, additional features, and new functionalities that could enhance the game's educational impact and accessibility. The workshop also seeks to inspire inclusive education and promote social transformation and equity.

Topic: Reinterpreting Tradition: Gendered Narratives in Folktales through Feminist Literary Theory
Nontokozo Gladys Mdhluli is a passionate scholar from South Africa who is now doing her PhD at the University of Venda. She is currently in her last year of PhD studies and has submitted her thesis for external review. Her academic career began as a high school teacher, teaching Siswati to Grade 11 students for nine years. In 2020, she enrolled in the University of Venda. With a strong interest in language and education, she continues to contribute to academic research, particularly in the study and promotion of Siswati.

Topic: Effective Pedagogy and Instructional Design Methods For Promoting Student-centred Learning
The session will focus on effective pedagogy and instructional design methods needed to create student –centred and engaging learning experiences. It will explore the current trends in teaching and learning and equip participants with the knowledge, skills and competences required to design and deliver effective learning experiences for their learners.
The session will cover the following topics:

b, The teacher as the facilitator of learning
c, E-pedagogy versus physical classroom learning
d, Student-centred learning ,assessments of learning and the use of feedback

Baden-Württemberg-STIPENDIUM
The Baden-Württemberg-STIPENDIUM supports the international exchange of students and vocationally qualified people. Since 2001, it has enabled more than 25,000 young people from Baden-Württemberg to gain experience abroad and allowed scholarship holders from other countries to visit Baden-Württemberg. Baden-Württemberg-STIPENDIUM for University Students – BWS plus
With the Baden-Württemberg-STIPENDIUM for University Students – BWS plus, the Baden-Württemberg Stiftung supports innovative joint projects between universities from Baden-Württemberg and their international partners. The programme is endowed with approximately 1.2 million euros annually. Since 2011, more than 100 BWS plus projects have been supported at universities in Baden-Württemberg. FIRE is a project financed within the framework of the scholarship program of the Baden-Württemberg-STIPENDIUM for university students - BWS plus. Aim of the program is to establish and build on new relationships with foreign universities and intensify existing contacts for the long term. FIRE is hosted at DHBW.
