EXAKT4YOU
EXAKT4YOU is a project funded by Baden-Württemberg Stiftung, initiated by Prof. Dr. Sabine Moebs, Duale Hochschule Baden-Wuerttemberg (DHBW) Heidenheim and furthermore includes the University of Venda (UNIVEN), Thohoyandou, South Africa, Nelson Mandela African Institution for Science and Technology (NM AIST), Arusha and the Institute for Finance Management (IFM), Dar-es-Salaam in Tanzania. The exchange of students and faculty as well as staff will take place predominantly in innovative formats of short duration such as Hackathons, Staff & Student Innovation Workshops, OER-based collaborative development of teaching material as well as webinars for scientific methods and research.
Students from different study programs can apply. The selected participants receive a stipend covering travel, accommodation and subsistence of up to 50%.
Hackathon: The host university defines a problem to be solved. The students then work in international and interdisciplinary teams for a period of almost 2 weeks. Subsequently they present their results which should be either an applicable solution or a workable prototype. Depending on the subject, results can be newly-developed software, a device or a machine, a multi-media course or a training concept etc.
Industry partners can be approached as sponsors for an award.
The one-week Staff & Student Innovation Workshops transport innovations between the countries; e.g. experiences with OER, the use and motivation to use mobile technologies in Africa, networks to support doctors, nurses and caring family members in the area of geriatrics or digitalisation in the area of insurances, to name a few. The partners agree on a theme and the workshops should give a platform to innovators from the regional network of the host institution, as well as students, professors and academic staff of the partner institutions.
EXAKT4YOU is part of the Baden-Württemberg-STIPENDIUM for university students - BWS plus, a program of the Baden-Württemberg Stiftung.
Past events
July/August 2022: Innovation Workshop DHBW Heidenheim, Sustainability Communication – Climate Change
Innovation Workshop: Interdisciplinary and Intercultural Sustainability Communication – Climate Change
The innovation workshop was focused on this theme:
Interdisciplinary and Intercultural Sustainability Communication – Climate Change.
Thus, students will have to come up with strategies, applying new concepts in cultural intelligence and innovative mass communication, communication tools, sustainability frameworks and reporting, which enable and support different entities such as businesses, NGOs, government or social organizations, answering the following question:
How can we communicate sustainability needs and strategies to all stakeholders in a way that it positively activates their engagement and involvement to mitigate climate change?
The teams should consider the 3 dimensions of the sustainability triangle, the economic, environment and social dimensions.
At the same time students need to consider geographical aspects, and look at local, national and international perspectives. Students need to consider all 3 perspectives.
This leads to a perspective from different points of view, either as an individual, as a business or as a social entity. Students can select one or more perspectives.
Finally we aim to bring together different industry perspectives, with students coming from business, law, sciences, engineering, IT or social and socio-medical fields of study.
Sessions
The event has three separate, but related sessions and some social and team building activities.
1. Preparatory Classes
EXAKT4YOU participants will attend the online classes in the module Interdisciplinary Communication, a final year course with 5 ECTS in the International Business program at DHBW from 27 June to 5 July / 5 August.
2. Opening & Closing sessions
The opening session of the workshop starts on Monday, August 8th, in the afternoon with a welcome by Prof Dr Dr-Ing Rainer Przywara, Rector at DHBW Heidenheim.
During the orientation for all participating students, international and interdisciplinary teams of 4-5 students will be formed around the announced challenges under the theme of the event.
The closing session of the Innovation Workshop event is scheduled for Friday, August 13th, from 9.30 am. It will be opened with a welcoming note by Dr Abdallah Possi, Ambassador of the Republic of Tanzania in Germany (TBC).
In a pitch session the teams will present their prototype or concept for a product or service. Teams need to deliver their presentation material, electronically (on a thumb drive provided by EXAKT4YOU), no later than 8.30am on that day.
Presentations will be 15 minutes with 5 minutes per team for questions from panels or judges, followed by the innovation fair, where the teams have the chance to give more in-depth information to judges and visitors.
3. The Innovation Workshop
It will run from Monday, 8 August until Thursday, 11 August 2022. During this time the newly formed international teams will put together a concept for sustainability communication, including some samples or a prototype. Teams will use allocated rooms as work space. They are free to organize their days; there are no scheduled communal meals or fixed work times.
Online-BarCamp “Corona, the Future of Work and Sustainability”
EXAKT4YOU has been extended until next year (2022) - a big thank you to Baden-Württemberg Stiftung! We hope to have our final Innovation Workshop at DHBW in Germany next year.
To bridge the gap and to allow for exchange, this year we organize an Online BarCamp for you from 24 - 26 August under the theme “Corona, the Future of Work and Sustainability”. A BarCamp is a conference with an open agenda. To register for the BarCamp you need to submit an initial session. Please register by 21 August at the latest via our registration page.
Who can participate
Students, lecturers, Corporate Partners from all DHBW-universities and students or researchers from EXAKT4YOU-partners.
Program
On the first day we include the presentations of a final year course in International Business at DHBW Heidenheim. Students have been working since the beginning of this year on one of three topics:
- Business plan for Moshi Youth Village in Tanzania (1 group)
- Business / Marketing plan for export of ReformAfrica products to Europe (2 groups)
- Concept for Sustainable DHBW - How many SDGs can you do? (3 groups)
They will present their results and answer questions from the audience.
On day 2 & 3 in the morning we will have a so-called line-up. In maximum 2 minutes you can introduce what you want to do: your name, what organisation or uni you are from, the topic you have prepared, the format you want to use (talk, discussion, etc.) and how long the session will be (either 45 minutes or 90 minutes). After each introduction we will ask the audience who would like to attend the session. If there are less than 5 people interested, we will put the session on the backlog. If there are more than five people interested, the session will be scheduled in one of two tracks. By the end of the line up the schedule for the day is set.
Participants can present at the line up the session they initially submitted or something else that fits under the theme “Corona, the Future of Work and Sustainability”. Participants can also extend a session from day 1 into day 2, presenting this at the line up on day 2 and if there is enough interest, it will go on the schedule.
We look forward to your research, your discussion questions or any other creative interaction with the topic.
More details and the links to the online sessions will be provided to registered participants before the BarCamp starts.
